Love, Life and Survival

Its going on some ten days since i last wrote in... thankfully its been cause life has made sure i was busy as hell and all problems fell into my plate all at once - but at the end of the week its a heartfelt relief to have emerged unscathed and quite the better for wear and tear.

Lost love... found some within myself, got drenched in the rain, got the latop wet in the same, worked a succesion of 15 hour days, shifted house, took a break to meet my sister, saw lage raho munna bhai and wondered about family and life, realized that i am broke with two thirds of the month to go, went bike riding at 1 am in the morning, bought a new phone and realized am broke only when it comes to money :), got screwed over (ok almost) at work, got worked up, worked out...

its been a hectic week to say the least - got some very satisfying work after a long time. however the crunch came when i got into two different things and both of them went red and i got yanked in three different directons :D but when i sit here and type out me blog how true goes the over used, hackneyed, maligned phrase - "if god brings you to it, he brings you through it"

caught up with two old pals - yashu bhai and punky boy, one burning the midnight oil in the country where god is supposed to save the queen and the other painting sweden (and half of europe in the darned process) red. actually its more like making swedish women go red my giving 'em the looks.. whatever. red is it.

work went over the top with as i said - and hey i AM grwoing old so repetition is allowed - so please stop sighing (btw sighing signifies you're older, so i am still the newest kid on the block) between a new initiative, tightening belts on an older one and keeping both bosses happy i felt like i had been passed through my office's paper shredder (two sheets at a time only pls = one limb at a time pls) and then sloshed around in a tub of acid. so bhai jaan lept at the chance of catching late night munnabhai in order to get a break so as to be able to make sense of the ppts to be made over the weekend. the only punga being that godji decided to let it pour cats and dogs and dinsosaurs.. and i have lost my post.. damn...

at least its in sync with mah week and its end! grrrrr.. nayway be getting along now... before my night gets stretched into morning and that into office...

Ah life!

a trip after some three months to a gym (my first btw), being put through the grind by an enthusiastic instructor, a happy back, a session with bed bugs at 4 am, waking up to a pleasant breezy day and a good hollering session with the maid... all of it confirms that I've done some "stuff" living away from home.

otherwise i would have just gone to play squash and stretch - here the guy put me on a succession on treadmills and exer cycles and what nots, fussed about the khatmals and not noticed that it was a great day since I'd be too busy figuring out what to eat for breaker... :D

some other good things that have happened in Pune - I've graduated to reading (waffling through) the Business Standard from the eco times, wash my clothes clean, made some neat trips to Matheran and Delhi... i guess i am happier too.. oh and not to mention the fact that i think i have learnt to chill.. :)

before it gets too far though....back to work!!

Rumble, ramble...

Sitting in office, 10:53 am and lost like a deer in the headlights of an oncoming car... reservation has gone through, people think now that you've worked for some freaking 90 days you ought to have like a ten year plan as to when, what will happen - MBA, work, growth etc... me? i have just decided to leave it to god. sure i'll put in my bit, scamper around to get that globally recognized MBA but i am not going to fret about it.

a man called arjun singh does not decide my fate, if i had that much respect for the politicians - would've joined the VHP or summat. i'll do the monkey grind, run the rat race but no one decides what i do, so i dont think i am very preturbed by the reservation thing (which is tosh - its prompted me to write an entry 11 AM monday morning!!)

but.. but i have been wondering... does life mean for me to sit in office all day, six days a week and churn out some stuff or am i meant to turn travel guide, explore with NatGeo / Animal Planet, chart a new path to pristine destinations across india? its a good timeto rethink the "i'll work for a few years, grow up, do a fancy MBA, get married, earn pots of money..." its more like.. "i'm twenty, screw life, let me get out there, explore the planet, live sparsely but teach myself about my planet, live with animals than muy laptop.. do this for a few years, come back study... and get settled and work" :D ramblings of a vella ( free) mind?? i do know that i probably wont be able to do the latter option alone. can god find me a girl i can explore the world with... :) theni think i'll be ok!!

anyway, i dont know how much and how this thing called life works out... but i do know i am going bungy jumping before i am thirty, rafting when i get the shot, live it up cause this is all i have and i know it will get nomadic but i'm banking on the fact that i'll find that girl soon! and yeah i'll get to work as well.... am still telling myself that i am in running to be the youngest president for strategy and finance that db saw...

Saturday, 12th August

I finished my Friday at 1:30 am on Saturday and was so tired that I think I turned off the alarm in my sleep and woke up late at six, to realize it was probably the time my bus to Neral was pulling out if its bay. A quick call and some hurried changing/ showering etc later.. I was rushing down to the pick up point. A bevy of girls at the station greeted me – a pleasant surprise – I thought Poona never woke until some eight AM.

until then I thought it was going to be a boring bus journey but the bus wala decided to play 36 china town and I had a ball listening to the music and the story line was also great till I had to “detrain”… the bus did stop at a gas station on the way and I got myself some water, took a leak and quickly got back to my seat on the aisle… J I guess I could have peeked at the beautiful stretch along the expressway but I was hoping to be able to catch the most of the movie… ( could not)

Got off – or was dropped off unceremoniously on the highway at what was supposed to be Neral… bags on my shoulder I proceeded to enquire as to where the railway station was (a quick check with Vidue had determined that the chappie was still steaming his way into the town on a local). Despite the auto wallah’s eager ministrations – quoting the price of the journey to the station as well, I decided to walk it. A wise decision, since I got to discover a town waking up and poke fun at a sleepy chemist on the way to the station, walk about carefree and ruminate over life – a trait that refuses to desert my being. Anyway to cut long story short (I want to get back to Shantaram J) I traced out the station, grabbed a medu wada and water, took a leak at the railway station, swore at the muck, had a crow shit on my head and finally the king walked in….

Vidur chopra has not changed – thank god for that… he calls me names, pokes at my trekking bag and immediately wants to see my laptop at the station and I know I’m set for a good weekend… a few quick decisions later, we decided to go to Panvel via local and then onto Matheran since we’d landed up at Nerul instead of Neral...

I will consign the rest of the journey to memory and photos and get back to reading… will get back to this later today…

Sunday – 13th August 2006

Ah.. the smell of rain and the complete silence when you get up in the morning… the creaky bed and the still wet towel, lack of electricity and the grumble of the early riser… a sense of peace and distance from the world ordinary…

I got up at twenty to eight, thanks to a need to answer the call of nature and realized it had not stopped raining all through the night. The pantry just outside the room, serving hot tea was too tempting to resist, so off I went… hide and seek biscuits and tea comprised a good start to the day while sleeping beauty (Vidur) continued to snore away. came back and began Shantaram – got till page 4 when I decided to see how much I could juice the quaint looking geyser. The morning ablutions and the associated processes have brought me to nine thirty and page nineteen of Shantaram… now I am in my bed, in my favourite jeans.. listening to knopfler belt out money for nothing and I am waiting for his majesty.. Mr. Vidur Chopra to get up so that we can go grab a cuppa tea and breakfast.. I think I’m in for a long wait though J

Back at night, it’s ten thirty and while I upload photos and lsietn to music, vidurji has grabbed Shantaram… we had a whale of a time. After the morning stuff, I treated myself to anda bhurji and parantha breakfast followed by coffee and up we trudged to Matheran city / market. On the way we met this chatty uncle ji who was born in Matheran and has come back to settle in Matheran – he regaled us with small talk and stories till half way up – when we decided to branch out and chill…

(now I will quote from memory and see if I can recall what was probably the best part of the hol)

So we got to the top and decided to do the touristy bit of Matheran… my horse was called Maharaj and Vidur had to make do with Raj :D and hey I forget my scrumptious breakfast of parantha and egg bhurji followed by coffee J - what life!!

Contd… well its one week from that time – a week later and the hol seems far away. there are a few things – tea at khans, the spooky walk in the evening, the hunt for chocolate fudge…. That might just be better consigned to memory. Someday I’ll look back at these pictures and grin about a hol stolen…

And just for memories sake – Monday and Tuesday morning spent in Mumbai were perhaps the best days of the hol – the Chinese at 5 spice in Bandra, the auto ride to get there, the couple of hours spent browsing at crosswords, the solitude in Vidur’s flat, coffee by the beach at CCD on carter road, beyond midnight and the time spent with chopra – memories to last a lifetime!!
